Shama'il al-Muhammadiya, Book of Stating That Prophet of Allah ﷺ Wore The Ring On His Right Hand
'Ali bin Abi Taalib (may Allah be pleased with him) says:
"Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore his ring in the right hand"
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَهْلِ بْنِ عَسْكَرٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، وَعَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالا: أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَسَّانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلالٍ، عَنْ شَرِيكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي نَمِرٍ، عَنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ حُنَيْنٍ، عَنِ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَلْبَسُ خَاتَمَهُ فِي يَمِينِهِ.
Classification
Hammaad bin Salamah says that he saw Abdur Rahman bin Abi Rafe' wearing a ring on his right hand. He asked him the reason and he replied, "I had seen Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) wearing a ring on his right hand, and he said that he had seen the Prophet of Allah ﷺ wear a ring on the right hand."
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي رَافِعٍ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ , فَقَالَ : رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ " .
Classification
It is related from Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) from another source (another chain of narrators) that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ wore a ring on the right hand
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ.
Classification
Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says, "The Prophet of Allah ﷺ wore the ring on the right hand."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْخَطَّابِ زِيَادُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ.
Classification
Salt bin Abdullah says that Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) wore a ring on the right hand, and as far as I can remember he used to say that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ also wore it on the right hand
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ الرَّازِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الصَّلتِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: كَانَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ، وَلا إِخَالُهُ إِلا قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ.
Classification
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reports, "The Prophet of Allah ﷺ had a ring made of silver. The top portion remained towards the inside. On it was engraved 'Muhammad the Rasoolullah'. The people were prohibited from making this inscription on their rings. This is the same ring which fell from the hands of Mu'ayqib (may Allah be pleased with him) into the well of Arees during the reign of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيان، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ فِضَّةٍ، وَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ، وَنَقَشَ فِيهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ، وَنَهَى أَنْ يَنْقُشَ أَحَدٌ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ الَّذِي سَقَطَ مِنْ مُعَيْقِيبٍ فِي بِئْرِ أَرِيسٍ.
Classification
Imam Muhammad Baaqir relates that Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) and Husain (may Allah be pleased with him), both wore their rings on their left hands
حَدَّثَنَا قتيبة بن سعيد , حَدَّثَنَا حاتم بن إسماعيل , عن جَعْفَرٍ بن محمد , عن أبيه , قَالَ: كان الحسن والحسين يتختمان في يسارهما.
Classification
It is related from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ wore a ring on the right hand, and some people have also related from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ wore a ring on the left hand
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى وَهُوَ ابْنُ الطَّبَّاعِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ: أَنَّهُ ﷺ كَانَ يَتَخَتَّمُ فِي يَمِينِهِ.
Classification
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ had a ring made of gold which he wore on his right hand. The Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with him)m in imitating the Prophet of Allah ﷺ also had gold rings made for themselves. Thereafter, the Prophet of Allah sallallah alaihe wasallam threw away the gold ring and said, "I will never wear it again."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، فَكَانَ يَلْبَسُهُ فِي يَمِينِهِ، فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَطَرَحَهُ ﷺ، وَقَالَ: لا أَلْبَسُهُ أَبدًا فَطَرَحَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ.
