Evidence of The Prophethood

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

In this article, we will give you evidences of the prophethood of Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ.

Introduction

Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muḥammad], as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And we revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Descendants, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and to David We gave the book [of Psalms]. [Qurʾān, Surat an-Nisaa, 4:163]

The above ayaah is from the Noble Qurʾān, but a person who does not believe in the Qurʾān will not believe in the above ayah as well. So, we will strive to provide evidences from the old scriptures where coming of Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ was mentioned. But, before jumping in to the main discussion, let us quote some more ayaahs from the Noble Qurʾān,

Allāh Glory be to Him has ordered us to ask the people who received the message (scholars of the people of the book)

And We sent not before you except men to whom We revealed [Our message]. So ask the people of the message if you do not know. [Qurʾān, Surah An-Nahl, 16:43]

Prophet Jesus ﷺ said to his people

And [mention] when Jesus, the son of Mary, said, “O children of Israel, indeed I am the messenger of Allāh to you confirming what came before me of the Torah and bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad.” But when he came to them with clear evidences, they said, “This is obvious magic.” [Qurʾān, Surah As-Saff, 61:6]

Evidences

Revelation

It’s mentioned in Book of Deuteronomy 18:17-18

The LORD said to me, ‘They have spoken well. I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you, and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him. [Book of Deuteronomy, 18:17-18]

And, Allāh Glory be to Him mentioned about Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ in His Book

Your companion [Muḥammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed, [Qurʾān, Surah An-Najm, 53:2-4]

Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ was unlettered and whatever he received was pure revelation and this is well-known from the books of history.

Christians say that above prophecy of Prophet Moses ﷺ is referring to Prophet Jesus ﷺ but we will clarify that Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ resembles more to Prophet Moses ﷺ than Prophet Jesus ﷺ does.

  1. Both prophets had father whereas Prophet Jesus ﷺ was born miraculously without a father

  2. Both died natural death while Prophet Jesus ﷺ was raised up alive to the heavens and he ﷺ will come back near the end of times (as a sign)

Rather, Allāh raised him to Himself. And ever is Allāh Exalted in Might and Wise. [Qurʾān, Surah An-Nisaa, 4:158]

  3. Both married and had children, while Prophet Jesus ﷺ did not marry (according to the Bible)

  4. Both came with new laws where as Prophet Jesus ﷺ came to follow the laws brought by Prophet Moses ﷺ

Not Learned

Allāh Glory be to Him mentioned referring to Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ

Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him – it is those who will be the successful. [Surah Al-A’raaf 7:157]

The mention of Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ is present in Book of Isaiah

Then the book will be given to the one who is illiterate, saying, “Please read this.” And he will say, “I cannot read.” [Book of Isaish, 29:12]

This prophecy does not fit any man on the face of the earth except Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ and it’s clearly mentioned on the accounts of history, that this is what happened to Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ – This is the first counter of him ﷺ with angel Gabrial ﷺ and he ﷺ received first revelation of Qurʾān, Surah Al-Alaq, 96:1-5

Narrated ‘Aisha (the mother of the faithful believers):

The commencement of the Divine Inspiration to Allāh’s Apostle was in the form of good dreams which came true like bright day light, and then the love of seclusion was bestowed upon him. He used to go in seclusion in the cave of Hira where he used to worship (Allāh alone) continuously for many days before his desire to see his family. He used to take with him the journey food for the stay and then come back to (his wife) Khadija to take his food like-wise again till suddenly the Truth descended upon him while he was in the cave of Hira. The angel came to him and asked him to read. The Prophet replied, “I do not know how to read. The Prophet added, “The angel caught me (forcefully) and pressed me so hard that I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read and I replied, ‘I do not know how to read.’ Thereupon he caught me again and pressed me a second time till I could not bear it any more. He then released me and again asked me to read but again I replied, ‘I do not know how to read (or what shall I read)?’ … [Sahih Al-Bukhaari, Number 4]

Conclusion

There are other proofs to prove his ﷺ prophethood but since we keep our articles short, we will stop here.

Anyone who is sincere regarding this matter, he will acknowledge and accept that what churches have been telling them is a lie.

For those people who say, “I agree that Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ is a true prophet but I am a christian and will abide by it”, I warn you. This is not about what you were born as, the matter is serious, and I quote Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira may Allāh be pleased with him that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ observed:

By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muḥammad, he who amongst the community of Jews or Christians hears about me, but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief), he shall be but one of the denizens of Hell-Fire. [Sahih Muslim, 153]

Allāh Glory be to Him gave enough of the arguments in the Qurʾān, e.g,

Say, “Have you considered: if the Qur’an was from Allāh, and you disbelieved in it while a witness from the Children of Israel has testified to something similar and believed while you were arrogant…?” Indeed, Allāh does not guide the wrongdoing people. [Qurʾān, Surah Al-Ahqaaf, 46:10]
